2 Dollar Productions Gives Thanks . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Sunday, November 26, 2006

Thanksgiving has come and gone, and even the leftovers are barely hanging by a thread.

But that doesn't mean there isn't still cause to be thankful. It's a busy, brutal world out there, which makes it easy to forget about things that matter and that nobody should take for granted.

So, with that in mind, my brother and I spent our 5 hour drive back to Austin discussing exactly what we were thankful for (in no particular order):

1) Old friends

2) New friends
3) The Duckbilled Platypus

4) Sunsets in the Caribbean

5) Crotchless panties

6) Not being married to Tom Cruise
7) A firm belief in Santa Claus

8) Family
9) Not having Joe Simpson in your family
10) Guinness

11) Discipline

12) The Draft Horse in Austin...The Creative Base of 2 Dollar Productions.

13) The Collected Works of Hunter Thompson, John MacDonald, Ernest Hemingway, Harlan Ellison, Robert Parker, Nick Toches, Douglas Adams, Ken Kesey, Stephen King, Spider Robinson and Moly Ivins...to name a few.

14) Weird Al

15) Good Coffee

16) Classy pornography
16) High fiber
17) Our Special Lady Friends
18) Inside straights
19) Barbecue & Tex-Mex
20) Trains in Europe
21) Life-altering, mind-melting, religion-changing sexual prowess

  2. Happy Thanksgiving! That's a good list you got there... especially the coffee, mmmmm ;)

  4. You know, I was just pondering the duck-billed platypus and how it is often dismissed and underappreciated. Now did each of you contribute your own item to the list, or collectively agree on all counts? You forgot "the collective works of Josh Hartnett" ;)

  5. Grace - Thanks & right back at you as coffee is a year-round appreciation, but it's even better when the weather gets colder.

Jlee - I'm glad we weren't alone as this animal is proof that somebody had a sense of humor when the universe began. We each contributed our own ideas to this list, but most do cross-over and nowhere will the "the collective works of Josh Hartnett" be found except on a list of things that will never be wished for nor wished upon our worst enemies.

  6. Hey, I never knew you guys liked Spider Robinson. Its been a while since I've read any of his calahan's saloon stuff, but I remember getting a big kick out of them. Time Pressure too was alright.

    Amen to sexy underwear.

  10. I like the last one too. I wonder if Tom Cruise used that on his bride to be? Scientology mojo
ew, why did I just say that?

  13. Idig - I like Spider fine, but he's more of my brother's writer, but we both whole-heartedly endorse sexy underwear (for women).

Dr - Yah for HST always, and Weird Al balances some of that out I suppose.

Jlee - Don't even mention that as it's a terrible mental image. Too horrible for a Monday morning for sure.

Starbender - We try as you've got to keep some things firmly in the front of your mind. Thanks.

  14. I'm thankful for families and for the fact that somehow every holiday meal degenerates into a discussion only adults can hear. We usually laugh until our sides ache.

  16. good list! good post!
makes us all appreciate random things in life.

    specifically beer. good call....

    ;D

  17. Stiltwalker - Boulders and a lot of other things too. Pretty awesome.

Sarcastic - I meant to include laughing that hard in our list, but you're right about that and I'm not sure as to the reason that conversation veers that direction. It's probably just a bit mroe interesting.

Cassie D - Thanks as we try to run the gamut on appreciation, which can sometimes be in short supply. Beer, however, is always good and thankful.

  18. Sherry Says:
  19. Friends, yes!
21 - Definitely thankful for, along with the mind-melting and leg quaking - oh, yeah ...

  20. Miss Ash Says:
  21. I'm thankful i'm not a turkey... oh come on laugh. I stole it from a cartoon, it's not even my clever line.

  22. Sherry - Friends are always up near the top, followed very closely by #21 and we forgot to mention the leg quaking part. Good addition.

Miss Ash - I know how badly you feel for turkeys, so I can roll with the line - even if it was borrowed from somewhere else. Ha.

  24. Big fan of the duck-billed platypus. BIG. So few people truly appreciate them.

  25. How very true, and I'm glad there's another person out there who truly respects them.
