Quick Hit Friday . . .

“I make you laugh, I'm here to fuckin' amuse you? What do you mean funny, funny how? How am I funny?” – Joe Pesci, “Goodfellas”

It’s semi-amazing that Joe Pesci could make himself slightly menacing in that scene considering he’s about 5 ft 2 inches tall. Oh well, the only thing I plan to menace today is a pair of breakfast tacos, a little bit of work on my desk and then I plan to flee to somewhere semi-dark and indoors where I can escape the 104 degree heat. And I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to be attending a stupid corporate party outside tomorrow night. Selah.

Anyway, before I head for the break room, let’s look at the hard stories of the week such as:

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler was airlifted to a hospital Thursday after falling off stage during a concert at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in South Dakota.

According to the Rapid City Journal newspaper, Tyler fell off the stage as the band was performing the song "Love In an Elevator."

Obviously Tyler should have pushed ‘Walk This Way’ further up in the set list.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, actor Ryan O’Neal said he hit on his own daughter at Farrah Fawcett’s funeral.

O’Neal told the magazine he didn’t recognize the “beautiful blond woman” – who happened to be his daughter Tatum O’Neal – who embraced him at Fawcett’s funeral.

“That’s our relationship in a nutshell," she told Vanity Fair. "You make of it what you will. It had been a few years since we’d seen each other and he was always a ladies’ man, a bon vivant.”

“I had just put the casket in the hearse and I was watching it drive away when a beautiful blond woman comes up and embraces me … I said to her, ‘You have a drink on you? You have a car?’ She said ‘Daddy, it’s me – Tatum!’ I was just trying to be funny with a strange Swedish woman, and it’s my daughter. It’s so sick.”

Agreed. 100%.

Paula Abdul announced Tuesday that she is quitting ‘American Idol,’ a show that she said became an international phenomenon with her help.

"With sadness in my heart, I've decided not to return" to the hit Fox TV singing contest, Abdul said in a posting on her Twitter account.

In a statement, Fox and the show's producers said Abdul was "an important part of the 'American Idol' family over the last eight seasons, and we are saddened that she has decided not to return to the show." They said she was a "tremendous talent" and wished her the best.

In a related story, the stock of pharmaceutical companies highly invested in painkillers plunged in trading on Tuesday.

Nicholas Cage owes the IRS more than $6.2 million in back taxes, the Detroit News reported this week.

According to the newspaper, the IRS is seeking payment for a $6,257,005 tax lien that was filed against the actor on July 14 as the figure stems from alleged unpaid income tax for 2007.

Meanwhile, the public has been seeking a good movie from Cage since ‘Adaptation’ in 2002, and I bet the IRS gets paid before that happens.

A Georgia man was charged with attempting to stalk Miley Cyrus this week after he returned to the set where the ‘Hannah Montana’ star is filming a movie near Savannah.

McLeod had previously been arrested in June on charges of disorderly conduct and obstruction after he tried to breach a security perimeter around the movie set and told police after his arrest that he was secretly engaged to marry Cyrus.

Tybee Island Police Chief Jim Price said Wednesday that 53-year-old Mark McLeod was arrested this time after Disney security officers reported he was asking where he could find Cyrus.

McLeod spent his time between June and the end of July in the state of Montana looking for Hannah.

Mark Wahlberg and his girlfriend Rhea Durham got married at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Beverly Hills in a small ceremony this past Saturday, says People.com

Wahlberg and Durham have three children together: Ella Rae, 5; Michael, 3; and Brendan Joseph, 10 months.

The ceremony was so small that only 1 member of the Funky Bunch was allowed to attend.

Michael Jackson's mother was granted permanent custody of the singer's three children Monday, ending one of the court battles which have occurred since the pop star’s death.

Los Angeles County Superior Court Judge Mitchell Beckloff approved the agreement reached last week by attorneys for Katherine Jackson and Debbie Rowe, mother of the two older children, in which the children will be raised by their grandmother while Rowe keeps visitation and legal parental rights. Beckloff made the appointment over a last-minute bid by Jackson's dermatologist – Dr. Arnold Klein – who tried to get involved in the case.

Dr. Klein’s credibility was irrevocably tarnished when lawyers presented the judge pictures of Michael Jackson’s skin transformation over the years.

As always, let’s end with a gold image or three:

I’m all for kicking your feet up today, preferably with as little clothing on as possible. So, don’t be afraid to let people hover around you, twist yourself into whatever position feels comfortable and . . . Happy Friday!

{Editor's Note: RIP John Hughes}

  2. Can we chalk Ryan O'Neal's comments up to overwhelming grief or is that too much of a stretch? Hmmmm....as if it isn't bad enough that he's hitting on a woman at the love of his life's funeral (and not even cold in the ground yet), he then goes on to brazenly admit it was his daughter who was the lucky rebound woman. Tacky....very tacky.

Great round up this week B. I hope it's not too much of a drag at the corporate party.

  3. Heff Says:
  4. Good Job. I'm leaving it with you since I tackled QHF last week, lol !

That's a real pisser about John Hughes - what was he, 59 ?

    Have a Great Weekend.

  5. KayDee - O'Neal is just kind of a dirtbag I think. He caught some sympathy for Farrah, but once a dirtbag, always a dirtbag. Ha. Tacky is a good word too. I hope to slip out of the party as quickly and quietely as possible. We'll see. Happy Friday.

Heff - Got it all out of your system last week, eh? Ha. Total pisser about Hughes as I was sad to hear that last night. What a resume of awesome films . . . and yeah, I think he was 59 as that's way to young to go with a heart attack while taking a walk around. Happy Friday Heff.

  7. I was very sad as well to hear about John Hughes yesterday. Maybe I'll do a movie marathon this week of his movies in honor. "Sixteen Candles" was always one of my faves. On the other end of the spectrum, do you think anyone cares that Paula is leaving A.I.? ha

Have a good weekend..beat the heat!

  8. A friend of mine saw Aerosmith a few weeks ago. He said Love in an Elevator was like the 4th or 5th song in the set, which happened to only be an hour long. Maybe him falling off the stage was a ploy to make the show even shorter?

EEEEEwwwwww @ Ryan O'Neal. If I were Tatum, I would go another 20 years before I spoke to him again.

Poor Paula. I'll miss her. And her babble.

Is it me, or does that weirdo Miley lover look a bit like Hank Williams Jr?

I wonder if Marky Mark had a lingerie bag full of Calvin Klien underroos for the honeymoon?

    Happy Friday.

  9. Heff Says:
  10. Just a historical note : the band name "Butlik" came from the term as used in the movie "Sixteen Candles" (-verklempt-)...

  11. Jlee - That's a good idea, and it would be much cooler inside than out. Hughes has got so many good movies to his credit too. I don't care much about AI with or without Paula. Have a great weekend.

Kmwthay - Appreciate the detail as always, so that could be the case and I read today that they are postponing their next concert, O'Neal is just a sleazy guy, Abdul was probably good for AI as it needed some kind of babble and I have no idea what else she'll do now, that guy looks slight (just slightly) more strung out than Hank, I bet Mark has enough CK stuff to last a lifetime and Happy Friday to you.

  12. Heff - Flew by you in Cyberspace, but that is awesome. I had no idea of the origins, adn I had forgotten about that part in the film.

  13. Who hits on someone at a funeral anyway? Especially after just loading a casket onto a hearse. And especially when it's your own daughter. Weirdo.

Speaking of weirdos. What 53 year old man believes he's secretly engaged to a teenage actress? Besides me in twenty years that is.

  14. nobich Says:
  15. 104 degrees how can you breathe??
    Well Happy Friday !!

  16. Linda Says:
  17. Welcome back! Words that come to mind reading this weeks QHF-
    Tyler - klutz
    O'Neal - creep
    Abdul - nuts
    Cage - idiot
    McLeod - wackjob
    Wahlberg - procrastinator
This week's movie quote makes me want to watch Goodfellas, have to dust it off this weekend. No one delivers a line like Pesci. Have a great weekend and Happy Friday!

  18. Native Minnow - Ha. Let's hope you and I and everyone else out there learns from both examples and never emulates either. That is probably a good thing. Happy Friday.

Nobich - Not very easily. It's brutal. But it's Friday, so . . . Happy Friday to you.

Linda - Thanks, and I need to drop by and catch up on yr. reviews. In the meantime, excellent word association as they kept getting better on each step down. Ha. Happy Friday to you (think I'm going to catch 'Funny People' this weekend).

  19. Jenny Says:
  20. Ryan O'Neal is working the media over his grief like a pro. He even managed to give good sound bites. I think he needs to go get a real job now that being a crap father and life partner is clearly over.

And yes, Peace Out to John Hughes. He left some good movies for us, but 59 is way too young.

Nice to have you back, even though Heff still a great job, and have a great weekend.

    (August is coverage month!)

  21. Nic Cage: That's $6 mil in back taxes FOR ONE YEAR'S INCOME? Gagh. And I think his last good movie was ConAir. But that's because John Malkovich and Steve Buscemi were in it.

  22. wigsf Says:
  23. That guy hit on his daughter. Yuck! Even if he didn't know, still. Yuck!

  24. Boxer - Yeah, O'Neal made the news for the first time for that since he got arrested for drugs with his son. Excellent father indeed. I feel bad about John Hughes as I know a lot of people did as he left behind a lot of films that a ton of people enjoyed. I need to grab a few more on DVD now. Finally, I just mailed back script release forms to WM this week, and after the receive them, it should be 2 - 3 weeks for feedback, so . . . fingers crossed. Happy Friday.

Wendy - I think (think) those taxes were owed on a house he sold, but I could be wrong. He makes a lot of money for making bad films too, so . . . it's hard to say. For my money, I think the 'THe Rock' was better than 'Con Air' as those two were the start of Cage's fascination with action flicks. Happy Friday.

WIGSF - Yep. Just pretty descipable (sp?) all the way around. Happy Friday.

  25. Amélie Says:
  26. hmm I dont know how he is so relaxed about having hit on his daughter.... and so quick to admit it...

  27. Miss Ash - Great movie, and yeah, that is enough to produce a bit of backwash from O'Neal. Ha. Just a dirty bastard.

Amelie - I know. That's the other thing that kills me (besides him doing it in the first place_ - why would you admit it to a magazine? That's a story best kept to yourself.

  28. slopmaster Says:
  29. Good LORD, those are some of the best pictures you have ever put up.

I wonder if its true the thing abotu Paula turning down 5 million. Why would she turn down 5 million to get drunk and talk gibberish?
