Last week I was tagged to list 8 things you want to do before you die, and grappling with these issues of mortality seems vaguely appropriate for a Monday morning. This list is transitional as I imagine it would change quite frequently depending on when the question was asked, however, this is mine for now:
1) Write a complete novel - This is probably a common one, but I simply want to write at least one full novel before I kick. Right now, I have a whopping 5 pages written on one idea, and another one story I think I want to write at some point, so I'm well on my way. Ha.
2) Spend 2 weeks in Bora Bora - Just checking out from the world in an island paradise and reading and swimming and drinking margaritas with nobody else around feels like a moral imperative.
3) Learn to be a proficient cook - I don't need to be a master, but expanding my scope beyond scrambled eggs, marinated steak and coffee seems like a reasonable goal.
4) Build a media room for the house - When I move from my loft, I want to have a media room with plush chairs, dim lighting and a huge screen on the wall with pitch-perfect surround sound. We'll see.
5) Raise a reasonable kid - I don't have a strong desire for this right now, however, at some point I believe it will happen.
6) Embark on and complete an Epic quest - I'm not sure what this quest will entail, but I would like it to be something akin to Einstein's discovery that E = MC2 or the Lord of the Rings.
7) Read every single book that interests me - This will be extremely difficult, but it is a task that is easily worth the attempt.
8) 3 Words: Ménage a Trois - No explanation necessary.

#8 - Please DON'T elaborate.
You realize you ended your post with your typical "shot" - excellent list! That picture of Bora Bora makes me want to pack a bag and "unplug" from the world - it would be easy to forget life on that beach. In that water.
I think our lists need to be flexible and change and I like that this is your list NOW and not created when you were 18.... for many reason the main nrinh I think your Number 8 would be number 1, 2, 3.... you get my point.
Thanks for doing this tag. I think it's good to write these things down every once in a while... just to remind us that we need to live in the present and the future.
Heff - I went ahead and changed it to avoid confusion. Ha.
Anonymous Boxer - I completely agree. I actually thought this would be easier than it was, but about half-way through the exercise it got exponentially harder. Regardess, thanks for the tag as I agree that it's worth examinging what you want, where you're doing and how you might get there on a regular basis.
I don't know if I could limit this to 8, honestly. Nicely done. That same hotel in Bora Bora is on my list though (seriously.) And write the novel. Dear God, man, you wrote a screenplay. You can write a novel. ;)
Nice list. No comment on the last one though. Isn't that every man's dream??? : ) Are you enjoy this heat yet? My yard is so dry and dead I haven't mowed but once this summer. : (
All good goals. I may adopt the media room one as one of mine. That'd be fantastic, wouldn't it?
As for #8, I'm convinced that's something that is better left as a fantasy. It just seems like there's no way it could live up to expectations if it ever really happened.
Bora Bora is an excellent location, good choice!!
As for the last one good luck with that. Perhaps you can convince your wife to buy you a real doll to join the two of you LOL.
Bostonpobble - No, you can write a novel. Ha. Mine is merely theoretical (sp?) at this point. But I appreciate the encouragement and simply staring at that place in Bora Bora makes me happy - every single time.
Symplyamused - The heat is especially brutal this year isn't it? I'm happy to be leaving for cooler climates this week for a little reprieve as August is the only month where I generally don't care to live in Texas. Ha. Let's hope we both don't melt, eh?
Native Minnow - The media room adoption would be great - for you. Ha. But you can have it too as I share and like to give. And yes, I have a distinct feeling that #8 is better lived in porno and in my head. Selah.
Miss Ash - Bora Bora grows in importance every year that I don't make it there, but one day I will. And a doll wouldn't count for #8 as that is no challenge at all. Ha.
Personally I don't see the problem with marinated steak and eggs and a good cup of coffee. What else could you possible need?!?! Hahaha
BTW... I missed the post on the review of The Dark Knight. I just want to add my 2 cents by saying it was FREAKING GREAT!! Granted I am a die hard Batman fan. But I enjoyed the entire 2 1/2 hours of the movie and I made up my mind that the moment, the minute, the instant, the second it hits the shelves on dvd I will be there getting my copy of it.
I toured a semi-famous person's house for an article I wrote and he has a media room you wouldn't believe. Here's the blurb: "Up the structurally magnificent floating staircase is the second floor, which holds a grand home theatre, featuring a projection screen, remarkable black silhouette wallpaper, soft leopard-print carpeting and extra-comfortable seats with sub-woofers for the best in sound quality. There's also a granite-topped wet bar with copper sink, and a Romeo-and-Juliet balcony that looks out over the first floor."
It was one of those houses where I tried to be cool and not scream OHMIGOD, especially in the media room. It was in-freakin-credible.
I built one of those media room things. Turns out, 6.1 surround sound didn't catch on. And now with the addition of the treadmill and exercise bike, it's more of an exercise room instead.
TrinabeingTrina - I think those foods are all excellent, and I just want to expand a bit beyond them as a little variety can't hurt. Ha. And yes, I thought 'Batman' did an excellent job and it's probably the best movie so far this summer (and I'll own it as well on DVD).
Wendy - Now I'm just depressed. Ha. I wish you had a picture of tha thing, although the one you painted in my mind with that passage is pretty elaborate. I wouldn't mind the same exact thing - just on a slightly smaller scale and budget.
WhatIgot - I'm surprised about the SS, but if you've got the TV in your excercise room, then I imagine it's easier to exercise for longer periods of time. I know it would be for me, so that doesn't sound like a bad thing, eh?
That's a good list and think of how different it would be if was "die next week" lol
I really like the media room idea too. I went to a baby shower one time at a lavish home in Mark Cuban's neighborhood and they had a SWEET media room. You need to make this happen soon so you can have your movie premiere party there!
If you have a couple minutes, paste the link into your browser and you can see it. http://gallery.venturacountystar.

It's the actor giving a personal tour of the house. The media room is about a minute into it. I wish they'd shown more of it, since the video doesn't quite do it justice.
By the way, I think the house is still for sale. Only $5 mil!
#8--- if it hasn't happened by now and you are married, it ain't going to happen. that is why youporn was invented!
I forgot this tag and will do it soon!
Jlee - I think I'll shoot for the premiere in Austin and then at Mark Cuban's house. Ha. Then again, I love a good media room, so . . .
Wendy - Awesome. Thanks as I had time this morning and it looks very, very sharp. And I'll ponder the asking price once I sell 27 screenplays and/or win the lottery - whichever comes first.
Vivavavoom - Don't ruin my plans Viva. Ha. I tend to never say never, however, the odds do get longer with each passing year. And you should defniitely do the tag.
