“Pain don’t hurt,” – Patrick Swayze, “Road House”

Pain might not hurt according to Swayze’s Zen bouncer, but I know I’m going to hurt after spending 3 days prowling around the Austin City Limits music festival. I’m at work for the time being, but the first act I want to see starts at 3:30 p.m., so I’ll be cutting out early to wade through traffic and find a parking spot.

Before that happens, however, let’s look at the hard stories of the week such as:

Director Roman Polanski is still in a Swiss jail after Swiss police arrested him Saturday on an international warrant as he arrived in Zurich to receive a lifetime achievement award from a film festival.

Authorities in Los Angeles consider Polanski a "convicted felon and fugitive." The director had pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse in 1977 with a 13-year-old girl. He was sent to prison for 42 days but then the judge tried to renege on the plea bargain. On the day of his sentencing in 1978, aware the judge would sentence him to more prison time, Polanski fled to France.

Polanski has told Swiss officials that he will contest a U.S. request that he be transferred to the United States, attorney Herve Temime said in an e-mail.

"He was shocked, dumbfounded, but he is in a fighting mood and he is very determined to defend himself," Temime said.

Hopefully Polanski will be in a fighting mood when he gets to prison because I’ve read that sleeping with underage girls doesn’t win you much prestige in the joint.

The breakdown of the marriage reality stars Jon and Kate Gosselin forced producers to change the name of the show this week to "Kate Plus 8".

The reality show now called "Jon & Kate Plus 8" will change its name on November 2 to reflect the couple's divorce, which was filed for in June.

"Given the recent changes in the family dynamics, it only makes sense for us to refresh and recalibrate the program to keep pace with the family," said Eileen O'Neill, president and general manager of TLC, the cable channel that airs the show.

Meanwhile, Jon is shopping his own show called “Jon Plus Whatever Attention-Seeking Strumpet Will Date My Lame Ass For A Fleeting Shot At Fame,” a title which is far less succinct than Kate’s.

Rumors that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel have broken up were met with denials this week as it’s unclear whether the couple is together or not.

New photographs of Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel walking hand-in-hand in Califonia appeared on Monday, the same day two magazine reports suggested the couple's relationship was over. Us Weekly claimed Timberlake ended his three-year relationship with the actress during a phone call back in August while Star magazine claimed the singer was pursuing a relationship with Rihanna.

Spokespeople for both stars are not commenting, but a production staffer on ''The A-Team,'' the film Biel is making in Vancouver, British Columbia, says, ''Jessica is really upset by this [breakup] story surfacing again.''

So far, the calls made to Biel's publicist by $2 Dollar Productions offering a shoulder to cry on and a revenge lay have gone unanswered.

Madonna appeared on ‘The David Letterman Show’ this week and told the host that she would never marry again after her 8-year marriage to British director Guy Ritchie ended last year.

"I think I'd rather get run over by a train," Madonna said when David Letterman asked her if she'd ever marry again.

I believe that train thought is British slang, which loosely translated, means “I’d rather sleep with my 21-year-old back-up dancers for the rest of my life.”

"Saturday Night Live" started their new season with an F-bomb being dropped on live television.

Newcomer Jenny Slate let the word slip during a parody of a talk show by biker women, a sketch that boasted tough talk from its participants, played by Slate, Kristen Wiig and guest host Megan Fox.

"You know what? You stood up for yourself," Slate declared, "and I (expletive) love you for that."

Unfortunately, the FCC fucking loves to give fines for that, so SNL can look forward to a hefty one soon enough.

Hugh Jackman recently broke character in his Broadway play – ‘A Steady Rain’ co-starring Daniel Craig – to chastise an audience member when a cell phone call interrupted the show.

An amaeteur video was shot during the show, and in it, Jackman breaks character to tell the owner of the ringing cell phone, "You want to get that?" as the audience erupts in cheers. As the ringing persists, Jackman pleads: "Come on, just turn it off." Jackman prowled the stage until the ringing eventually stopped, then he resumed the performance.

Jackman would have had better luck stopping the call if he flashed his Wolverine claws at the offender.

Tori Spelling was rushed to the hospital twice in two days this week with severe abdominal pain.

The reality star went to a hospital in LA on Monday night but was released hours later. She was rushed back the following day by husband Dean McDermott when the pain returned. McDermott wrote on Twitter: ”Just out of the hospital. After a battery of tests, no conclusive answers. She still feels terrible. Hope it passes soon. She's in a lot of pain."

Doctors are working under the theory that Spelling’s pain was the direct result of watching a marathon of ‘Beverly Hills 90210’ shows from late in the series.

In other hospital news, Dennis Hopper was taken to a hospital this week after developing flulike symptoms.

Sheila Feren said that the 73-year-old star of "Easy Rider" and "Blue Velvet" was being examined at an unidentified New York hospital Wednesday afternoon after complaining of stomach ailments usually associated with the flu.

At press time, it was unclear whether Hopper watched the same ‘90210’ marathon as Spelling, but the link cannot be ignored, according to Doctors.

As always, let’s end with a gold image or two:

These images are a good summation for me because I am a little tired and could fall asleep yet I will still be walking around for the forseeable future. So, enjoy prowling or sleeping, always maintain good posture with either endeavor and . . . Happy Friday!

  2. Do you know who that guy in the background of the Dennnis Hopper photo is? I'm pretty sure that's Marcus Alexander "Buff" Bagwell. Whatever happened to that guy?

    (He was a pro wrestler.)

  4. Unfunny comment follows. Delete at will as I know you like to keep QHF light:

Have L.A. County Authorities EVER conducted an investigation and prosecution without fucking up royally?

I never knew the underlying facts of the case until this week, and, like you, thought he just slept with a willing young girl he thought was older.

The facts are it was FORCIBLE rape and he knew the girl's age.

If it had occurred in a jurisdiction with competent police and prosecutors, he'd probably have died in prison by now.

  6. I heard Jon is refusing to let his children be filmed which is throwing a major wrench in production. I say good for him. I also heard about the F-bomb skit and a friend sent me a link, so I need to go watch it. I got nothin' clever to say today, so I'll just say enjoy ACL!

  7. WIGSF - If that's true, then nice spot. I thought I knew a fair bit of the old school wrestlers, but I've never even heard of Bagwell . . . Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Kamala, Junkyard Dog, Big John Stud, but no Bagwell. Oh well, Happy Friday.

Troll Y2K - I was generally under the same impression. It happened so long ago and has been reported that he was a fugitive from justice for so long, that I kind of forgot the details, which are pretty damn bad. I'm interested to see how it all plays out even if the whole story just kind of depresses me. Happy Friday nonetheless.

Jlee - I just saw something about that yesterday, but was too lazy to include it in QHF (much like the Letterman extortion story). Ha. Thanks on the ACL wishes as it's going to be a wet one - 70% chance of rain Sat/Sun . . . Happy Friday Jlee.

  9. my husband has another fine Swayze Roadhouse quote he says all the time as a joke. that movie...I'm sorry...is so bad it is good. From what I read the victim of Polanski's crime had forgiven him and dropped charges and this is a case of the gov't not letting it go. I am not saying he is not guilty for what he did all those years ago AT ALL!!! He is.

  10. Boxer Says:
  11. to add to Troll's unfunny comment, have you read the entire list Polanski was charged with? It made me shudder.

I think all theaters should have a secret device that silences phones and kills the ability to text because he's my hero in the way he handled the douche in the audience.

Finally - does Justin Timberlake REALLY need to wear glasses? Just wondering if he's trying that "maybe I'll raise my IQ by wearing these". Just wondering....

enjoy your three day music fest and why don't you just put up the Drunken Viking NOW?

  13. I've got a busy day that I'm already late for, so no snide comments from me this morning.

    Have a blast this weekend.

  14. Vivavavaoom - Agree completely about 'Road House' as that is so awful yet so great at the same time. Hadn't heard/read that about the girl in the Polanski case, and my initial reaction, was just let it go after all these years, but then I re-read exactly what happened and I reconsidered. Honestly, I wish it had never happened as I like Polanski's films and that kind of thing shouldn't happen to anyone. Period. Happy Friday Viva.

Boxer - Shudder is a good word as the details are just pretty damn awful. The whole thing is, and I have pretty much stopped reading about it because it's rotten all the way around. I agree 100% about this phone killing device - that would be phenomenal and a great use of technology. And yeah, I've been thinking for awhile now that JT's glasses are an affectation and utter bullshit as far as actually helping his vision (and I think he looks kind of stupid in them to boot). Happy Friday Boxer as the Viking must revel in the mini keg cans of Heineken they sell at the festival BEFORE he can forumulate & dispense his wisdom. Selah.

  15. Kmwthay - Flew by you in Cyberspace, and some days are too busy although it's too bad it has to be on a Friday, eh? Regardless, Happy Friday & have a great weeeknd.

  16. Heff Says:
  17. I'm in the same boat as kmwthay here regarding time, but did you hear the VERY LATEST David Letterman fiasco about blackmail ?

  18. I was in the waiting room at the doctor yesterday and on the news they went straight from a story about how two undercover police officers prevented a man from raping a girl in a public bathroom at a park, to the story about how Jon Gosselin wouldn't allow camera crews on his property. I just kept thinking to myself, "This is news?" I understand that people can only take so much of the heavy stuff, but seriously.

  19. Oops. Make that off-duty police officers. Big difference.

  20. nobich Says:
  21. Happy Friday!! Have fun @ the festival..

  22. Heff - This is a disappointment, but I understand the time consideration . . . I saw the Letterman story this morning at the gym. Crazy stuff. It was just too late to make QHF as the content was set. Happy Friday.

Native Minnow - That sounds utterly ridiculous. It wasn't 'Access Hollywood,' was it? Ha. Probably not. Yeah, "news" is a loose term these days as I saw the Letterman story on CNN this morning at the gym. Selah. And yes, off-duty does make a difference, so thanks for the clarification. Happy Friday out in the desert.

Nobich - Thanks a lot and Happy Friday to you.

  23. Linda Says:
  24. Jon Gosselin is a fame whore
    Madonna is boring
    Hugh Jackman rocks
David Letterman is still my hero
    I miss Lindsay this week.....

Enjoy the music festival and Happy Friday!

  25. Miss Ash Says:
  26. Can someone point out to me how Polanski has suffered enough by not being able to make films in Hollywood??? Someone actually said that....let him go he's suffered enough....WTF???

I actually saw that SNL skit...I had to rewind it to see if I had heard it correctly. It was almost 1am when theres soft core porn on....who cares about the f bomb. (Not that I would know when the soft core is on...i'm just saying)

    Have fun at the festival.

  27. Linda - Agreed on all fronts, especially the Lindsay and Gosselin ones. Ha. I miss her too as QHF suffers for her absence. Thanks and have a good weekend - Happy Friday.

Miss Ash - I hadn't heard that Hollywood thing as I've been tuning out this story lately - just ugly all the way around. And yeah, I agree about the SNL thing. It was a mistake, but not the end of the world and I guess you were flipping back and forth between SNL and the soft-core when the F bomb dropped. Ha. Happy Friday.

  28. Gypsy Says:
  29. Gee the F-bomb gets dropped on a fairly regular basis here and no-one bats an eyelash. Do you think we're becoming desensitised here in Oz?

Speaking of Oz, you rock Hugh Jackman.

Who the hell would want to marry Madonna anyway? Not unless they want to have their balls handed to them on a platter.

I was surprised you didn't include the va-jay-jay flash on SYTYCD. Apparently a contestant rolled around the floor in jubilation when told she had made the Top 100, completely forgetting she was going commando for the day (why would you audition for a dance show without knickers anyway....shakes head in bewilderment). It went to air without anyone noticing until it was too late....WTF?

Great QHF B and I loved the new name of Jon whats-his-name's new reality show. Brilliant.

    Have a fantastic weekend.

  30. Joanna Cake Says:
  31. Did that woman break her nose falling over with her fingers caught in her knicker elastic?

The idea of Daniel and Hugh on the same stage is making me moistly jealous of anyone in NY... but that moustache has to go!

  32. I really do not understand all the outrage and drama at the Polanksi arrest, and the way that Hollywood has rallied to him does not reflect well on their culture.

Are we forgetting that this is a person who raped a thirteen-year-old girl? Where is the outrage for her?

I agree that, given the time since the crime and the victim's desire that the charges be dropped, a generous financial settlement would be sufficient. However, a civil suit already awarded the woman in question $600,000.00, which Polanksi has avoided paying for years.

Is there any greater arrogance? I hope they add on another half million for his recalcitrance.

  33. Gypsy - Language doesn't bother me very much, especially when it was past midnight like SNL and a bunch of young kids aren't watching. I agree about Jackman and had to laugh about Madonna because you're right - she neuters just about any guys she's with. And I hadn't even heard of the SYTYCD flash - thanks as I'll have to find a YouTube video.

Joanna Cake - Ha. Yeah, that could have happened as it can be very dangerous when things get twisted, eh? And I thought the same thing about the mustache - that thing is huge and ridiculous, but I"m sure it was for his character. Still . . .

BrightenedBoy - Those are all good points, and thanks for the settlement information as I had never read that about the case. It's even worse that Polanski refused to pay that. Since the initial furor, I think most people have calmed down and realized exactly what he did and you won't hear nearly as much moving forward. I think. But I could be wrong.
