Quick Hit Friday . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Friday, October 30, 2009

“See, I was the one who really killed the Terence brothers. And I doubt a lying little chickenshit like you was even in the same state!,” Gene Hackman, ‘The Quick and the Dead’

I watched this movie last week for the first time in nearly a decade, and Hackman really holds the project together despite a powerhouse cast that also included Russell Crowe, Leonardo DiCaprio, Sharon Stone, and Gary Sinise. It’s too bad it wasn’t a better film, although it’s perfectly serviceable for a certain amount of brainless fun.

My own brain is already out the door today, thinking about Halloween and also about gaining an extra hour of sleep, the latter of which excites me just as much as the former. But before I stroll outside into the rain by 3 p.m., let’s look at the hard stories of the week such as:

Scarlett Johansson confirmed this week that she will make her Broadway debut and star opposite Liev Schreiber early next year in a revival of Arthur Miller's "A View From the Bridge."

Producer Stuart Thompson says the production will open Jan. 24 at the Cort Theater. Previews begin Dec. 28 for “A View From the Bridge”

I only hope that the ‘View From the Bridge’ extends into Johansson’s dressing room, but I tend to doubt it.

Levi Johnston confirmed this week that he will go full frontal for his upcoming spread in ‘Playgirl’ magazine.

"Everything's gonna hang out," manager Tank Jones told TMZ.com. "We're talking 'Full Johnson.'"

The timing couldn't be more appropriate: Johnston, 19, will pose in the buff on Nov. 16, which is also the day that Sarah Palin will appear on ‘ The Oprah Winfrey Show.’

I’m going to act like Switzerland, stay neutral, and simply not watch either of them since I wish that both would fade into the Alaskan wilderness.

In worthless Lindsay Lohan news, her father – Michael Lohan - continued his publicity tour this week and told a magazine that Lindsay will be dead in a year if she doesn’t change her pill-popping ways.

"It could be a year, a month, a week -- who knows?" he told Grazia magazine. "She has a plethora of medicine you can't mix and can't drink with."

I don’t entirely believe him, but then again, her career has been dead for several years now.

Miley Cyrus was voted the worst celebrity influence of 2009 in a poll conducted by teens and tweens on the website JSK.com this week.

Cyrus took 42% of the vote, far ahead of Britney Spears and Kanye West who came in second and third respectively.

Meanwhile, Lindsay Lohan has demanded a recount.

Rosie O’Donnell sat down with Howard Stern this week for an interview where she discussed her relationship troubles with the longtime partner Kelli Carpenter but also revealed that she had a phone fling with Angelina Jolie.

"She… gave me her phone number and we talked on the phone two or three times, but that was that," Rosie revealed. "There was a tentative plan to have dinner that never came through. I was a little afraid of her. She's scary in a sexual kind of way."

I find it very, very scary that this potential coupling ever came remotely close to happening – even if it was only in O’Donnell’s mind.

The Jonas Brothers took to their MySpace page this week to deny that they were breaking up after confirmation of Nick Jonas’s solo project was confirmed.

In a post titled, "We Are Not Breaking Up," the trio gave a list of facts about the current and future plans of all members of the group:

#1 - The Jonas Brothers are NOT breaking up!

#2 – Nick Jonas is working on a side project called Nick Jonas & The Administration

#3 - This project will be released early in 2010

#4 - We are ALL excited about this project AND what we are doing TOGETHER!

#5 - We plan to make music together for as long as we can.

#6 - We assume we will be able to make music together until our fan base passes through puberty. We hope.

It was announced Monday that British comedian Ricky Gervais will host this January's Golden Globe Awards as Gervais will be the first official host of the Golden Globes since 1995.

I’ve got no joke for this one - it was an excellent choice & I’ll leave the jokes to Gervais since he’s often quite good with them.

As always, let’s end with a gold image or three:

These were kind of a motley crew of images, and although I don’t love any one of them, they all have something going for them. So embrace the random today, go colorful or go home and . . . Happy Friday & Happy Halloween!

  2. The Quick and the Dead was directed by Sam Raimi, right? Therefore, it didn't have the proper direction to be a good movie. Hackman, the only veteran star in the list of actors you mentioned had to carry the film. Who else would?

Liev Schreiber doesn't get the credit (or the roles) he deserves. He's a good actor.

"manger Tank..." Rule #1 when hiring a manager, don't hire a person named Tank.

Does it really matter if Lohan kicks the bucket? Her career bought the farm a while ago.

Other than the three in that poll and the Twilight guy, who else do Tweens know?

I'm very afraid. I have the same opinion of Jolie as Rosie O'Donnell. Not since her statement to Madonna "You think there are people in America who haven't seen your bosoms" have I agreed with Rosie.

Jonas Brothers, those are the guys who did Mmmbop, right?

I've never like Gervais' brand of humour. Being unknowingly confused can only be funny for so long.

Now, I'm off to grab the bull by the hornys... so, HAPPY FRIDAY!

  3. WIGSF - Appreciate the detail, so it was directed by Raimi who always has some cool shots in his films, but they don't always stand up well as complete projects, Schreiber is a good actor, almost used that Tank joke myself as the guy sounds like a putz, Lohan does seem like a mess lately, I have no idea what/who tweens watch or listen to, I had forgotten about O'Donnell's Madonna quip, that was Hansen & I don't know why I know that, Gervais has said some funny things as past awards shows, and good luck with the bull. Happy Friday.

  5. Every time I heard someone say "be neutral about it be Switzerland" I think of Jessica Alba on TMZ when she said "be neutral about it be Sweden". They ripped her apart for that one!

    Happy Friday!

  7. Michael Lohan needs to STFU. Predicting his daughter's death is dusgusting. No wonder those two aren't close. And a quick note to Playgirl, who do you think is dying to see Levi Johnston's junk? That's messed up. Have a Happy Halloween, enjoy that extra hour on Sunday and Happy Friday!!

  8. Miss Ash - Ha. I remember that too. At least she was close since both countries start w/ an S. Happy Friday to you.

Linda - Completely agree as Michael Lohan is a moron, and really the whole family is just one big mess. I have no idea who reads/looks at Playgirl anyway, so it's hard to say about 'ol Levi. Ha. I wonder how much he got paid for it. Enjoy your extra time & Happy Friday.

  9. JLee Says:
  10. I never saw "The Quick and the Dead" All I remember is Sharon Stone's extensions looking like a DEAD raccoon on her head. (that reminded me of something Heff would say. lol
I don't have the energy to do it to all the items, but I will say I love Ricky Gervais.

Have a Happy Halloween and good weekend!

  11. I can't take Liev Schreiber seriously at all. He was in Scream. Need I say more?

And after that, all I've got is...
mmmmmmmmm... Scarlett. She maks my knees weak.

    Happy Halloweenie.

  12. Jlee - They weren't as good as a dead racoon and neither was Stone as she looked scared for a large portion of her screen time. But Hackman and Crowe were good. I think Gervais will do a great job & have a great Halloweeen weekend. Happy Friday.

Kmwthay - I haven't seen 'Scream' in a long, long time. But I can take him far more serously than David Arquette, who was also in that one. Ha. I'm right there with you on Scarlett . . . Happy Friday & Happy Halloween.

  14. When I think "tough gunslinger", I think Leo Decaprio. Followed by Pee-Wee Herman and Boy George.

Other than that, I got nothing.

Do you ever include the antics of sports celebrities?

  15. Jenny Says:
  16. I got nothing either. Not because this isn't a great QHF, but more I've had a long week, my knees are killing me and I still have 8 hours ahead before I get my first cocktail.

Have a great Halloween weekend and thanks for continuing your Friday posts.

  17. Heff Says:
  18. Extrememly LATE Heff Friday !!

Johansson’s view looks JUST FINE to me.

So Levi Johnston and Sarah Palin DO have some things in common - They both can't keep their guns tucked away !

Michael Lohan continues to impress me. I've never seen a mooching father so concerned over a child's career, lol !

    Regarding Miley - Hell, I demand a re-count as well !!

Even if Rosie O’Donnell's dream of dinner with Jolie had come to pass, Angelina would've been TOTALLY turned off by the tonnage of food O'Donnell consumed. - EPIC FAIL -

The Jonas Brothers are "Tools of Three". Who the hell does a "side project" with the SAME "band" members ?!?!

As far as Ricky Gervais hosting, are you sure he's not LYING ??? There's a reference, there.

    And in closing,

Have a HORNY weekend, BDS !

  19. Troll Y2K - Yeah, and DiCaprio is really, really young in the movie as he looks about 12 years old. But to be fair, he's known as The Kid in it, so at least they don't pretend otherwise. As for sports stars, I follow them personally, but they only occasionally make it into here as it would have to be someone so popular they transcend sports or just someone who does something incredibly stupid. Happy Halloween & Friday.

Boxer - Ouch. That sounds like a long week and a long day. I had a long night last night, so I'm a bit tired myself. Oh well, at least it's Friday, eh? Enjoy that cocktail when it arrives & Happy Friday Boxer.

Heff - Better late than never & I appreciate the detail, so just fine indeed, like the gun line as I should have thought of that one, the whole Lohan clan is a mess & you can't root for any of them, I have no idea who is popular in the Tween world except Cyrus so I couldn't demand one, yeah, O'Donnell might have met her at a Golden Corral buffet, the Jonas Brothers are big in the tween set I bet (so I guess I lied above), I got the Lying reference as you don't need to re-Invent the wheel for me Heff (that doesn't really make sense), but regardless, Happy Friday.

  21. Happy Halloween & Happy Friday!! Guess I'm the oldest one cause I remember Soupy Sales who died this week...

  22. I think I liked that picture of Scarlett Johansson better than the gold images this week. Then again, she is in my top five.

  23. h Says:
  24. Do the Big 12 referees hate OSU because Mike Gundy is a 42-year-old MAN or do they love UT for some reason?

    Awful first half.

  25. Nobich - Happy belated Friday to you & hope you didn't get a pie in the face this weekend for Soupy. :) Should have put a little RIP mention for him.

Native Minnow - You're probably right . . . I love that pic as well & Johannson would certainly merit that placement. Happy Friday.

Troll Y2K - Please don't tell me a Gator fan is talking about calls . . . the entire SEC is revolting because Florida has been getting them all season long. Ha. That being said, that was a bad call, but it wouldn't have mattered that much in the end (and yes, there were several mentioins of Gundy's 'Man' speech at my place during the game). Finally, Florida finally looked good on offense, but overrall, I'd have to give the edge to UT this weekend since OSU is marginally better than Georgia based on their head-to-head win this season, although neither is particularly impressive.
