The Greatest Sex Around Part 14 . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Thursday, February 07, 2008

{This is the Fourteenth in a semi-regular series of posts regarding great cinematic sex scenes as defined by me. This is completely arbitrary and open for interpretation, but so is life.}

"Desperado" was a wholly unrealistic, yet fairly enjoyable action film that featured Antonio Banderas running amok and piling up bodies and bullets in his search for revenge.

I'm not a huge fan of Banderas, however, his partner-in-crime for the project, Salma Hayek, is another story entirely. Hayek plays a bookstore owner who aids Banderas during his quest, an association which leads to a steamy encounter with a fine soundtrack playing in the background.

The scene itself is highly stylized with flash cuts and finesse and a plethora of candles which are used to light Hayek and Banderas as they grope their way around in other. The director, Robert Rodriguez, knows that it's hard to go wrong with sweat, complex positions and lots of nudity.

He piles all of these elements into the scene. My only wish was that it was extended another few minutes as I could watch Hayek frolic around on camera sans clothes for quite awhile without worrying about details like pacing and plot.

But regardless of the scene's length, this tryst in "Desperado" still displayed enough heat to earn it a place among the all-time cinematic greats.

  2. Ok, there's ONE reason for me to see this movie...

  3. if there was a woman i would leave my husband for it would be salma. she can even make a unibrow sexy (in frida)

  4. Heff - There's a lot of good (if unrealistic) action in there too. I need to watch it again as it's been awhile.

Cats - You would have a hard time doing better than Salma. And I agree as I thought the same thing when I saw Frida too. She also seems fairly nice, which is simply an added bonus.

  6. Was this another one of those infamous scenes where there were claims that they were doing it for real?

  8. Hm. Okay, maybe I'll see it then. I've never been able to think of anything redeeming about this movie to make me rent it. Now...maybe. Hot sex is good.

  9. Havingmycake - As far as I know this wasn't the case with "Desparado." Still, it would have been a hell of a lot of fun to shoot that scene with Salma.

Bostonpobble - True. That's always a reasonable draw, but you might just do a search for that scene as I'm sure it's out there on the Web. That would save you $3 for a rental if you didn't care for the rest of the movie. I like to hedge my bets. Ha.

  12. I will admit they did make a hot couple!

  14. I agree that Hayek has a certain... presence on screen. From Dusk til Dawn by... whatsisname and starring... Whosits and... Herman Kettle-something or other... but that dance is unforgettable.

  15. Anonymous Boxer - Was Banderas in that scene as well? Ha. I just didn't notice him, but you're welcome.

Trina - It was a pretty damn good scene. I need to watch it again.

Getoffmylawn - You are dead-on about 'Dusk' as that dance with the snake and the music and Salma is an unbeatable combination.
