The Bulls Run The Show . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Monday, July 16, 2007

The annual running of the bulls last week in Pamplona, Spain was particularly noteworthy thanks to a group of pissed-off bulls, who hurt 13 people during the festival including a nasty goring of a pair of American brothers.

I saw highlights of these maulings, and I have to admit that I was cheering for the bulls.

The running of the bulls is a colorful spectacle full of fear, mockery, "courage" and pure animal instincts. It is fairly bizarre that an entire festival would spring up to allow a bunch of the bulls the chance to even the score with humans who have lorded over and eaten them centuries.

I'm sure the human runners have their reasons for voluntarily choosing to place themselves in harm's way, but I could care less. My amount of sympathy for anyone being gored by thousands of pounds of pissed-off beef is nonexistent despite attendees wanting to "live life to the fullest" or "overcome fear" or any other rationale that precipitates climbing into the streets and running like a bandit.

Bulls are faster than you. They are meaner than you.

And anyone who hasn't heard the expression that if "you mess with the bull, you get the horns" deserves the natural conclusion that occurs when this saying proves to be true.

  3. I live life to the fullest. I would rather regret doing something than not doing it. I think living in fear sucks.

I have no need to run with bulls.

  4. in some cultures the bull, in your pic, and that guy with the horn 5 inches up his ass would be married. Enjoy the rest of the consummation, brother.

  5. Bostonpobble - I completely agree with your opening paragraph, and I also feel no need to run with the bulls to make my life complete. If you need to do it, that's fine, just don't complain if you get a horn in the ass is my opinion.

Idig - That would be one painful consummation. And I think I would run faster rather than experience it.

  7. I agree completely. I think the bull should rip them all a new one, wearing white with a red band around their waists, they are pretty much asking for it.

  9. Little known fact: the running of the bulls was started in the dark ages when Pedro "Pepe" El Camino wagered to some friends he could outrun a bull. You see, Pepe was the town's most popular matador and he claimed overlordship over all horned quadropeds. He died in his attempt. The following year, the mark the anniversary of his gruesome death, his friends tried to outrun a bull. Many of his friends were then buried next to Pepe. Their friends tried again the following year and so on and so on until today.
    Viva Pepe!

  10. Vivavavoom - If you ask for something and you get it, then my sympahty is nil. I say take as many out as the bulls can manage.

WhatIgot - That's very interesting. I was going to look up the origins as I heard this story a long time ago, but laziness overtook me. Thanks for the Pepe story.

  11. I would have to say in this case the bulls are smarter than you too. HA!

  13. I like the Pepe story & if I was a friend of Pepe then running would seem like a good idea but Pepe is DEAD get over it.

  15. boy that sounded mean
    sorry guys
    you too Pepe

  16. Sarcastic - I'm on the bulls side here. Ha. There's no need to disparage intelligence.

Nobich - I feel bad for Pepe, but as you noted, sometimes you have to move on and these guys running today wouldn't know Pepe if he kicked them in the ass.

  17. Sorry, I wasn't clear - I meant the bulls are smarter than the runners!

  18. Now that makes more sense . . . I appreciate the clarification and so do the bulls.
