I'm Sorry & I Miss You . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Monday, May 07, 2007

This past week, we had several nasty storms roll through Austin, and on Wednesday night there was one that lasted most of the night with pelting rain and winds. I never lost power, but after that point, my home Internet connection would only work intermittently until Saturday morning, when it quit entirely.

I spent the rest of the weekend in a haze, a feeling of loss that was frightening in scope as I had never realized how integral this connection had become in my life.

The Internet serves many masters, but for me it has been:

1) An entertainment source
2) Great for driving directions
3) A news source
4) Obviously making it possible to blog
5) A pornography depot
6) A restaurant menu locator

These are just a few of the things I have come to depend on the Internet for yet I took it for granted, like the availability of lean brisket or indoor plumbing.

And I think I have been punished for my own blindness because my cable company cannot come until Tuesday to fix the problem. Let the punishment fit the crime I always say.

I can't promise that this won't happen again as it's easy to slip into old patterns, but let me just issue a public apology to the Net and say that I'm sorry and I can't wait for you to come back to me.

  2. You know it's funny. When i'm on vacation I could give two shits about the internet. However in my everyday life it has taken over my being. Mine was down once for a few days, I thought I would surely die. No msn, no email, no blogs what's a girl to do. Maybe I should ban myself from it for a week haha.

  4. The first step is to aknowledge there is a problem. Then, get thee to an Internet Cafe.

  5. Miss Ash - I was thinking along those same lines, but then again, why undergoe voluntary torture? There are worse problems to have than an Internet dependency in my mind.

Anonymous Boxer - You're right. Admitting the problem as least gives you a fighting chance, but this one seems be beating me llke a gong.

  9. I'm a web addict too. I can't go 24 hours without getting the spiders under my skin. I think being away from technology makes you appreciate it all the more when you get back to it. It's nice to check yourself once in a while.

  10. There are way worst things you could be addicted to :-)

  11. Anonymous - It hurts. It hurts bad.

Ja717 - I agree and when I'm on vacation, I have no problem leaving things like the Web behind, but when it's just everyday life, I've found that I need it - badly. Ha.

Trina - You better believe it. Far worse & I have some of those too, but that's another post entirely.
