Kurt Vonnegut . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Thursday, April 12, 2007

Kurt Vonnegut, whose dark humor and imagination was recorded in stories for more than 40 years, died last night in Manhattan at the age of 84.

According to the New York Times, Vonnegut had suffered brain injuries from a recent fall.

``He's the closest thing we've had to Voltaire,'' said Tom Wolfe. ``It's a sad day for the literary world.''

If you haven't read "Slaughterhouse-Five" or "Cat's Cradle," I would recommend them both very highly.

  2. I shall add those to my ever growing list of books to read. It's bizzare, I love a good book and I love to read, but I rarely ever make time for it. I bought an Oscar Wilde book when I was in Japan in 2003....it's still sitting on my shelf. I've also bought many books since then....i've read probably 4 of them.

  4. Breakfast of Champions...

  5. Miss Ash - At some point you will get to them all I'm sure. Your next trip should be to a beach where you can plow through them all.

Nobich - That was my next choice. Good one.

  7. Between this announcement and the one of Roscoe Lee Brown's death, it was a very sad morning here at the Pobble House.

    *sniff*

  11. I'm ashamed to say I have never read his stuff, even though my ex had both these books. Maybe that's why I never read them? haha

  14. Bostonpobble - That's too bad as well, and let's just hope another one isn't next because these things tend to run in 3s.

Anonymous - The teasing will re-commence on Friday. Worry not.

Jlee - That could explain a few things I suppose. Ha. They are definitely worth a read - maybe you should steal your exes copies.

tkkerouac - I'll second that sentiment.

  16. When I was in high school it was quite stylish to read Vonnegut, I've always been a fan. And then my daughter met him at a reading at NYU her freshman year. I remember when she told me, I was envious. She always calls me with "star sightings" in the city, and this was a big one.

  17. That is a big one as I have a few signed Vonnegut novels that I like very much. I never met/saw him though . . .
