Pop Goes The Weasel & Our Chances . . .

Posted by 2 Dollar Productions Monday, February 12, 2007

Well, I already mentioned that $2 Dollar Productions didn't advance in the "World Series of Pop Culture" audtions, but I skirted the actual reasons, so I figured I'd allude to a few of them.

I can't go into much detail, however, as we were all forced to sign an NDA (non-disclosure agreement) before we could test which essentially stated that all Web traffic would be monitored and that VH1 would come after you and your family if you broke the covenant.

So I'm going to err on the side of caution as it's not worth paying lawyer's fees for 45 minutes of my life.

I've already mentioned that it was a written test, and I believe that I passed it (by a thread) if you're scoring the way we all did in school with a 70% equaling a step onward.

Regardless, it's very possible that VH1 already had 3 clean-cut white guys from other cities who had made it to the compeition. Hell, we grow on trees and are a dime a dozen.

I think our chances would have been better if I had a peg leg, my brother was sporting a boil on his neck the size of a hen's egg and his friend was a cyclops. Now that would be a team and a demographic that hadn't been filled, eh?

Next time. Next time.

To be fair, the test was hard and while I did well on the movies and television portion, my musical knowledge was poor.

I knew very little about pop music over the last decade. I know even less about Hip-Hop and Rap and my inclination to become versed in all these genres is so low that you'd have to dig a well to find it.

Therefore, I probably wouldn't have swept the competition even I had advanced unless I could stay completely away from music, and quite honestly, life is too short to keep tabs on which interchangable pop act is ruling the airwaves.

I'll stick to an encyclopediac knowledge of interesting movie lines - now there's a skill with some broad application for life its ownself.

  2. poor you!!! you may want to work on the 'freak' aspect for next year :)
its a good story too- even if you cant provide all the details.

  3. There must be a line from a movie that sums up the way you feel about this whole event...

  5. Seems cliche' but remember...when one door closes, another one opens, so who knows what's in store for 2DP? Bigger and better things, perhaps.

  6. Anonymous - The bigger the freak, the better the chance - might be a good strategy. And it was easily worth a story.

Sarcastic - I'm sure you're right & I'll have to ponder that one today at work.

Jlee - Let's hope that holds up as I think bigger and better is almost universally applicable and I plan to keep that firmly in mind. WSOP was never really the end goal anyway. Ha.

  7. Those two shoes definitely fit the bill as they are like watching trainwrecks - yet I can't look away if I stumble upon them.

  11. Movie trivia, now there's something worth my while.
Eh, FOgetabOUtit! You're going to NY ... much better.

  12. Miss Ash - Glad to hear the shirt arrived as your was the first Canadian shipment to hit. But it won't be the last.

Sherry - My thoughts exactly. My eye is fixed on that prize which is something I've earned versus whatever the hell this WSOP turned out to be. But I'm still glad I took the test.

  14. That's the Harryhausen cyclops, isn't it?

  15. ohhh man, I tried out for that last year, but didn't know all three of your team had to smoke that quiz.. My brother and I aced it, I live for pop culture- total nerd, but our third team memember froze and I think maybe got a whoppin 10 right... I almost killed him, I would have sooo won that money! They didn't come to Atlanta this year, bummmmmm.....

    always next time!

  16. WhatIgot - Maybe. I pulled it off google images, and my knowledge of cyclops is poor so I'll take your word for it.

Shroom - Monkey - I'm not sure if all 3 had to pass or what the exact critera was as they never said what it took. Regardless, I feel your pain.
